So, the chicken fajita quesillas should be the thing you have to order every time you come.

After much "where do you want to eat tonight?" debate I decided on trying Fernando's for the first time. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants and if I do say so myself I'd like to think I have a very trustworthy, perhaps sometimes complicated, but definitely delicate "palate." I was stuck between El Paso, which is my regular go-to restaurant for Mexican food, or trying a new place, Fernando's. Was this a very wise decision? Nah. Let me put this out there. The fajita portions are smaller in comparison to other Mexican restaurants I have frequented. Usually I can split a single fajita plate with someone else and still have leftovers. Could I do that here? Negative ghost rider. Also, The meat (steak) tasted very much like BBQ slathered on it and the hot plate which completely threw me off. The chips weren't warmed up. The wait staff spent more time outside socializing with each other and their cell phones outside that the hostess had to be our waitress as well. I can honestly state I've paid the same money or even less for bigger portions and more authentic tasting food elsewhere.

Food is good, margaritas are not. But ultimately after many many tries I have come to the conclusion that this place has the worst, and least attentive service in town. Only come here if you want to wait an hour for your food. Like I stated earlier, this is NOT a one time occurrence.

Excellent service, fantastic food, love the happy hour deals... Possibly the best fajitas I've ever had, they also have delicious desserts and appetizers. I'd recommend the white queso dip or the flautitas. Top shelf margarita exceeded all expectations

Strong cheap drinks and great fajitas that have bacon and lots of peppers. Never a wait and the staff is friendly. Beware if you are not a fan of karaoke! Often has live music but also has a nice patio area if it is too loud inside.

Went and ate lunch here today with my parents and we are all in agreement that we will never be back. For starters, the theme of this restaurant is SALT. Salt on everything, hell put some more salt on the salt. The complimentary chips and salsa are generally the most difficult item for a Mexican restaurant to fuck up. The chips were cold, kinda stale feeling and of course highly over salted. The salsa was also very salty and tasted more like onion than anything else. I ordered the burrito suizo, and was less than happy with it. The refried beans were room temperature and tasted straight out of a can.... oh and surprise, they were really salty. The rice, surprisingly enough, was not at all salty. Nor was it anything else. Just very bland rice. And then... the "burrito". Supposedly filled with fajita chicken, the wrapper simply crumpled at any attempt to cut it. Out tumbled bits of chicken highly reminiscent of pre-cooked "grilled" chicken with the fake grill marks on it. And oh boy, was it like eating a salt lick. If I were a horse, I probably would have loved this lunch. A microscopic veneer of pale green sauce was present on the burrito, but was so scant as to not impart any flavor. I forget exactly what my mom ordered, but I do recall the plate had a neon red cup-sized bit of tortilla overturned on the plate and oozing a tiny bit of queso. She said that it was horrible stale and discarded it promptly. Regarding the rest of her food, she also stated that it was lukewarm at best and overly salted. My dad got the chimichanga plate, and when it first came out we were under the impression he had been brought the wrong dish. What appeared to be a hot tamale perched over some sauce and the same tepid beans and bland rice. After cutting it, we concluded that it was in fact a chimichanga; just the most diminutive example of that item any of us had ever seen. If Derek Zoolander were dining there, he likely would have queried if it were a chimichanga for ants. He remarked that it wasn't horrible, though a bit salty. He said the queso sauce was some of the worst he had ever encountered. That being said, Fernando's wasn't all bad. The atmosphere was cheesy and the open garage-style doors offered a lovely view of busy Coursey Blvd traffic - perfect for any diner who loves the squeal of tires and honking horns so common on busy roads thanks to the horrible driving of us Baton Rougeians. The prices? Well, most items ranged about 25-75 cents higher than a comparable restaurant, though other restaurants in the same category tend to serve much better food. So what does that leave... Ah, the service. The service actually wasn't bad. I didn't catch our waitress' name, but she was fairly attentive. She apologized a few times when we told her how bad the food was, and quickly brought us our check. Not the best service, mind you, but at least this painful experience was over with some expedience. That being said, I would absolutely recommend that nobody ever eat here, ever. Especially any of you who may have already high blood pressure. The near lethal levels of salt in the food may actually kill you. I think this is the first restaurant I've ever reviewed that I've ever had to warn people about the possibility of their imminent death if they choose to dine here, so take that for what it is.

The food is OK. My pregnant friend complained that her food was too greasy and asked if it could be made with no butter. The waiter then asked her, "Who's going to pay for that?" referring to her meal. He later complied to her request. After our meal, I noticed a dead bird in the chair next to me! A DEAD BIRD!!! Had I seen it prior to ordering, you better believe we would have never eaten there. TRAUMATIZED!

Ok. I have reviewed before and given 3 stars but I keep coming back to this place and I am never disappointed. So it's 4 stars now. The atmosphere is great in the bar area. They have table seating and bar seating but the best part is the garage size windows that they open. When it's nice and warm outside you almost feel like your at a bar on the beach feeling the breeze come through the doors. Sitting anywhere other than the bar area seems like it may be a drag. This place is not perfect or fancy but it makes me feel comfortable and welcome. I keep finding dishes that I really like the more I explore the menu. I have said before that the place to be for Mexican on Coursey Blvd is Casa Lavida. I take that back. The place lacks atmosphere and the food is not as good as Fernando's. I leave a lot of tips so look there if you need help deciding what to eat. Prices are low.

I have been here many times. Food can be very good and they have cheap booze before 7pm. It has a neighborhood feel to it with humongous garage doors that open up around the place if its not to hot. The owner`s daughter has more curves than the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Yup, this is a tex-mex joint. I came here at lunch with some coworkers and enjoyed sitting in the open-air bar. It was a little loud with the road right outside, but the fresh air was nice. The chips were so good that I nearly made myself sick on them, but the rest of the experience was just "meh". I had the mixed fajita plate, which came with enough meat to make about 2 tacos. The steak was decently seasoned, but kind of stringy, and the chicken was just so-so. The plate of sides had rice, refried beans, and a little guacamole, which were "bland, salty, and decent" in that order. $12 for what basically amounted to 2 average tacos means I'm probably not going to head back to this place any time soon (though I'd probably pick it over Ninfas, if I had to choose one or the other).

Good food, great beer prices (get a bucket!) and entertaining music. The crowd...leaves something to be desired, but huge TVs all around help. Food was good and there are several meatless options (I did not inquire about the use of lard, however). Did I mention the cheap buckets of beer?! Wait staff is attentive and kind - good place to have a relaxing meal on the patio.

I am not any kind of Mexican food connoisseur. I like chips, salsa, meat, cheese, and margaritas. The things I tend to eat at Mexican restaurants are not the kinds of things you can really mess up. And they didn't. Food wasn't phenomenal, but wasn't bad at all. And I really like the prices at this place. They have live music some nights which looks to be a success based on the crowd. The service leaves a little to be desired, they do about what they have to do, not much more. But the place serves its purpose, so if you're on that side of town I say give it a shot. According to an ad on the radio they have lunch specials as well.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
